Workshops

At Sailors we are passionate about leather. We have all seen how traditional skills have been on the decline. Traditional crafts have usually taken generations to perfect and if one is lost we are actually losing centuries of human progress. Many of these crafts are long forgotten. We are passionate about holding on to traditional skills and knowledge. Along the way we have picked up lots of traditional skills and we would like to share them so that they may be preserved. Therefore from time to time we run workshops to introduce people to leather craft.

If you would like to arrange a workshop with a small group please get in touch. We currently do not have any workshops scheduled due to other commitments. However is you have a group of up to four people who would like to spend a day in my workshop making something nice, please get in touch.

My class size is very small the main reason for this is that if I am to impart some skills properly to my guests then small small numbers work best. I may be able to accommodate slightly more people if you have a larger group. Please enquire.

These are one day workshops and the projects are small items that teach two or three key skills such as cutting, assembly, stitching and edge finishing. All of the tools you will use are traditional hand tools. The materials are traditional and what you end up making will be a nicely made and authentic.

We will provide light refreshments and plenty of tea and coffee! At the back we have a micro petting zoo and guests are welcome to take a break with the chickens, rag fits and Pygmy goats. Just make sure they don’t snatch your lunch from the picnic table!

Should you prefer to use your own tools we can supply tue tools needed so that you can take them home and continue your new found craft. Materials are usually available too. Please let us know in advance if you would like to purchase the tools and some materials both of which will be decent quality. No cheap eBay stuff here.

You may be wondering what would happen if you didn’t complete the project in a day. I can reassure you that you will and I’m the extremely rare occasion when you don’t, we will make some time for you to return to complete it if it is something that you cannot complete at home. Don’t worry, you’re covered.

All that remains is for you to get in touch and find out what our offerings are and set a date. We look forward to hearing from you and giving you a warm welcome to a lovely day of crafting.
