Bespoke

Introduction

Most of our projects are for bespoke orders.  As the client, you can enjoy the process of designing your bespoke luxury leather item by participating in the various aspects of the design process.  The result is a completely unique, exclusive and highly meaningful luxury leather item that you can connect and engage with more deeply.

We specialise in making different types of bags although we do take on commissions of luxury leather goods.  In short we will consider any project.

We are a small family team and our turnaround time, for now, is several months.  We can advise more accurately upon inquiry and the turnaround time will depend on the size of the project, the choice of materials and the number of projects already booked.

Each bespoke item we make is usually made from beginning to end, one at a time with the respect, care and attention you would expect for your order.

What To Expect

We usually do not charge for the design process.  For projects that require more extensive design work we will inform you of all charges, if possible, before you commit.  You are committed only after you have approved the project and we have received a 50% deposit.

There are several areas of consideration when engaging in a bespoke luxury leather project and we are here to help and guide throughout to ensure that the item you receive is what you expect.

A typical bespoke project entails the following stages.  An initial meeting resulting in a hand drawn sketch.  This is followed by a second meeting to decide on the final design including the dimensions, choice of materials and closure methods for example.  New sketches are drawn if necessary along with drawings showing the dimensions.  Materials are then ordered if they are not already held in our stock.  Occasionally we make a prototype first but this is usually not necessary.  A target completion date is given and the project will be initiated upon receipt of the deposit.

Please be aware that bespoke projects can take longer than planned due to unexpected delays.  Factors such as availability of materials and shipping delays have impacted us all in the recent past.  Rarely we have to reconsider some design elements due to availability of materials, design constraints and other factors.  In any such eventuality you will be kept fully informed.

The Making

Each bespoke project starts with hand sketches and pattern making.  The item is cut and assembled by hand, is saddle stitched completely by hand and then all finishing is completed by hand.  All hardware is carefully and precisely attached.  All using traditional and vintage leather craft hand tools.  This process gives every piece we design and make, even the regular lines, a unique fingerprint.  Truly exclusive and authentic.  Furthermore the leathers we prefer to use are uncorrected, full grain and fully aniline leathers so that the natural markings of the hide are visible giving each piece a unique appearance.
